The next course to
take place at Díseart will run between, the 19th of May, and the 2nd of
June. Titled Oilithreacht siúlóide (Walking Pilgrimage) the
course will involve everything from lectures to cultural evening. The course is
being run in conjunction with the University of Southern Maine but all are
welcome to attend.
Díseart enjoyed huge success with its
recent Féile Bríde festival, which took place at the beginning of
February. Activities included a bonfire and talks on Irish Theology and
Spirituality. The festival was further supported by the RTE documentary "A
Clare set in Dingle" which featured a concert performed in Díseart's
chapel.
Díseart are currently planning the next festival on
the calendar, Féile Na Bealtaine. An art exhibition by Siobhán
ní Shíthigh will be on view among other events, which are still
at the planning stage. A full listing of festival events will be available from
Díseart soon and will also be posted on this site.
Our
week-long course in Irish Culture and Spirituality has been approved by the
Department of Education for primary school teachers. This further strengthens
Díseart's growing credibility as a centre for education. Our next course
will take place at the beginning of July.
Ahern to look at
€3m Díseart plans TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern has promised to closely
examine proposals for a €3m development at the Díseart Institute of
Education and Celtic Culture in Dingle. Mr Ahern met staff from the centre
during the early days of the election campaign. Díseart is a private,
non-profit institute founded in 1996 to promote study and understanding of
native Irish and Celtic Culture. It is now proposed to extend student and staff
facilities at Díseart to cope with an increasing enrolment and visitor
numbers set to rise to 40,000 a year. Extract from the Sunday Independent
