Seen by many as one of the highlights of the weekend,
Díseart welcomed over 35 children and their parents for an afternoon of
artistic expression, fun and games. Many disappointed arrivals had to be turned
away due to maximum numbers having long been reached. The afternoon began with
storytelling, which was provided in both English and Irish in order to
accommodate the many nationalities that were present on the day. The children
were then supplied with paper, paints, glitter, brushes and eventually blank
plaster masks and were invited to design and create their own masks for
Halloween. With the help of their parents, the Díseart Artist in
Resident and several of the Díseart staff an imaginative array of masks
were completed. This was followed by a selection of traditional Halloween games
and culminated in a parade through the Díseart gardens and up to the
large bonfire, where everyone was joined by Professor Pádraig Ó
Fiannachta who invited all to join him in a Celtic Samhain liturgy. Reaction to
this event has been extremely positive, with parents praising the organisation
of the day and looking forward to further similar events that can be enjoyed by
the entire family.
